Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Akimov Pavel Andreevich, a self-employed individual registered in the Russian Federation (INN 482424418541), Lipetsk ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Ultrawider browser extension and the ultrawider.net website (together, the "Service"). We have designed the Service to collect the absolute minimum required to deliver and bill for it.

1. Summary

• The extension processes video locally inside your browser. We do not see, log, or transmit what you are watching.
• For Alpha Access we store only your email address and the fact that you hold an active licence.
• Card and PayPal details are handled exclusively by our payment provider Lava.top. We never see or store them.
• No advertising, no behavioural profiling, no third-party tracking.
• You have rights under GDPR, the Russian personal-data law (152-ФЗ), and analogous laws elsewhere — including access, correction, and deletion.

2. What we collect

2.1 Information you give us

• Email address — for licence delivery, receipts, licence recovery, and required service notices.
• Payment metadata — transaction ID, amount, currency, and timestamp returned to us by Lava.top. We do not receive card numbers, CVCs, or bank account numbers.
• Support correspondence — if you email us, we keep that conversation in order to respond and to improve the Service.

2.2 Information collected automatically

• Anonymous installation count — provided by the Chrome Web Store statistics dashboard. Not tied to your identity.
• Technical diagnostics (automatic, all installs) — from the moment Ultrawider is installed or updated, the extension sends anonymous technical events so we can find and fix real problems: launches and results of viewing modes, error codes and the failing build phase, fallback outcomes, how quickly a mode was switched off (bucketed), free-sample usage, onboarding progress, service-worker lifecycle, and delivery health of the diagnostics itself. Each event carries a random installation ID (generated at install, not tied to your identity), the extension version, a coarse browser/OS family, screen and video dimensions, and the hostname of the site (e.g. youtube.com) — site-specific problems cannot be found without it. Events are kept on your machine until the server confirms receipt, are re-sent (never duplicated) after offline periods or browser restarts, and are stored for at most 30 days, used only to diagnose and improve Ultrawider.
  
  What is never sent, in any event: page addresses beyond the bare hostname (no full URLs, paths or queries), video IDs, titles or media addresses; page or subtitle text; raw error messages (our own code files and lines only, message text redacted); page stack frames; search queries; cookies or tokens; your e-mail; your licence key; anything you type. No screenshots, video or audio are ever captured.
• Website error reports — when the website itself encounters an unhandled error, a technical report is sent containing the redacted error shape. The error message and stack are free text, so before anything leaves your browser it passes through a redactor that replaces every web address, site name, file path, e-mail address, licence key, session token and random identifier with a placeholder; only the shape of the failure remains. These reports come from the website, carry no installation ID,.
• Setup & goodbye pages — when you install the extension it opens our one-time setup page (ultrawider.net/welcome), and when you uninstall it your browser may open ultrawider.net/goodbye. These pages send our server a single first-party snapshot so we can understand who installs and why people leave: your installation ID, extension version, browser type and language, screen resolution and aspect-ratio tier, an approximate country derived server-side from your IP (your raw IP is stored with this record for country lookup, rate-limiting and abuse prevention, then deleted or anonymised within 30 days), and coarse hardware capability info your browser exposes to every website (CPU core count, approximate device memory, graphics-card model string, display refresh rate). The setup page also records which onboarding steps you reached, and the goodbye page records the optional uninstall reason you click. The uninstall address itself carries three values whenever you remove the extension: your installation ID, whether the extension ever applied a mode, and how many days it was installed. Those three are sent on every uninstall — they are what tells us an uninstall happened at all. The address also carries the short coded snapshot described below. No cookies are used; the install ID is stored in this site's local storage so we can tell returning visits apart. None of this is linked to your email or identity, and none of it involves your browsing history.
• In-extension registration & rating prompt — the same anonymous snapshot described above (install ID, version, browser, aspect-ratio tier, coarse hardware info) may also be sent once directly by the extension rather than by a web page — for example to register installs that predate the setup page, or when the extension shows its one-time "rate us" card after you've used it a few times (we record only that the card was shown, clicked, or dismissed — never what you write in a review). Same data, same purpose; still no URLs, page content, identity, or watch history.
• First-session diagnostics — to understand why the extension sometimes fails to fill the screen, it sends coded outcomes from your first sessions: which mode was attempted (smooth / crop / off), whether it succeeded, why it fell back if it did not, whether the on-screen control was actually shown, how far the setup flow got, how long a working result was watched in coarse steps, and what became of the free Smoothie sample including whether the Crop it falls back to could be proven — plus the installation ID, extension and browser version, and screen dimensions already described above. These are fixed enumerated codes, counters and coarse buckets only — never your e-mail, licence key, browsing history, page URLs, page titles, page content, or video frames. They are on by default and can be turned off in the extension settings; turning them off stops both this channel and the coded snapshot on the uninstall address described above. If that setting cannot be read for any reason, the extension behaves as though it were off and sends nothing. The channel that sends these diagnostics over the network while the extension is running sits behind an additional server-side switch, and that switch is currently off.
• Anonymous website analytics — the ultrawider.net website (NOT the extension) loads Yandex.Metrica to measure page views, scroll depth, and clicks so we can improve the landing experience. Metrica may set cookies and record a session replay ("Webvisor"). It does not link back to your licence, your email, or anything you do inside the extension. You can block it with any tracker-blocker, with your browser's "Do Not Track" header, or by visiting the Yandex.Metrica opt-out page. The extension itself loads no Yandex.Metrica or third-party analytics SDK. Its own data collection is the automatic technical diagnostics described above — one channel, always on, no switches, all limited to the fields listed and all disclosed here. The installation ID is a random identifier created when you install: it identifies an installation rather than a person, and it does link that installation’s own records to one another, which is why we call it pseudonymous rather than anonymous.
• Server logs — when you visit ultrawider.net or hit our licence-check endpoint, our hosting provider may log standard request metadata (IP, user-agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention. Kept for no more than 30 days.

2.3 What we do NOT collect

• Your browsing history.
• The contents of pages you visit.
• Frames, audio, transcripts, or any other data extracted from videos you watch.
• Personal viewing history (which video you watched, when, where).
• Card numbers, CVCs, or bank account details.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above only to:

• deliver your Alpha Access licence and provide ongoing service;
• process your purchase, issue receipts, and validate your licence;
• send you required service messages (refund confirmations, security notices, material changes to these terms);
• respond to your support requests;
• detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
• comply with applicable law.

We do not use your personal data to train AI models, to build advertising profiles, or to sell to third parties.

4. Legal bases (GDPR)

For users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we process personal data on the following bases:

• Contract — to deliver Alpha Access you have purchased (email, licence records, payment metadata).
• Legitimate interests — minimal anonymous analytics, abuse prevention, security logging.
• Legal obligation — to keep records required by tax or consumer-protection law.
• Consent — where required, for example for optional non-essential cookies, with the right to withdraw at any time.

5. Third parties

We rely on a small number of vendors:

• Lava.top — payment processing (card & PayPal).
• Google Chrome Web Store — distribution of the extension. Subject to Google's policies.
• Hosting provider (Fly.io) — serves this website and the licence-check endpoint.
• Yandex.Metrica (LLC «YANDEX», Russia) — anonymous analytics on the website only. Privacy notice.
• Resend — transactional email delivery (licence emails, recovery emails).

We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

ultrawider.net uses:

• One first-party cookie (ultrawider_lang) to remember your language preference (EN/RU) between visits.
• Yandex.Metrica cookies (_ym_uid, _ym_d, _ym_isad, _ym_visorc) — anonymous analytics described in §2.2 above. Lifetime: up to 1 year.

We do not use advertising pixels, retargeting pixels, or any cross-context behavioural advertising. The browser extension itself does not set cookies.

7. International transfers

Personal data may be processed in the Russian Federation, the EEA, or other jurisdictions where our vendors operate. Where personal data is transferred from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

8. Data retention

• Licence and email records: kept while your licence is active, deleted within 30 days of a verified deletion request (or anonymised for tax/accounting purposes if longer retention is required by law).
• Payment metadata: kept for the period required by Russian tax and accounting law.
• Support emails: kept up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Server logs: kept up to 30 days, then deleted.
• Raw IP addresses in analytics, onboarding, and diagnostics records: deleted or anonymised within 30 days. Payment-related IPs are retained under payment-metadata retention above for fraud prevention.

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• request correction of inaccurate data;
• request deletion ("right to be forgotten");
• request a portable copy of your data;
• object to or restrict certain processing;
• withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent;
• lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ultrawider.net from the address on your licence. We respond within 30 days.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including HTTPS, encryption at rest where supported by our hosting provider, restricted access to production systems, and the principle of data minimisation.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent change. For material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify users by email or via the extension.
